Teaser Tuesday #3

Gene Wolfe//The Shadow of the TorturerTHE RULES:

  • Grab your current read.
  • Open to a random page.
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page.
    • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other Teaser Tuesday participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

My current read is The Shadow of the Torturer by Gene Wolfe, the first volume of The Book of the New Sun, which I picked up just last week after several weeks of staring at it longingly on the shelves at work (which is a second-hand bookshop). The edition I have is actually a bind-up of the first two volumes in the series, but for my teasers, I’ll be sticking to book 1. 🙂

Teaser #1:

“From time to time, however, a librarian remarks a solitary child, still of tender years, who wanders from the children’s room… and at last deserts it entirely. Such a child eventually discovers, on some obscure but low shelf, The Book of Gold. You have never seen this book, and you will never see it, being past the age at which it is met.”

Teaser #2:

Fresh as a flower, Madame. Hardly a breath of stink on her, and nothing to worry about.” More agilely than I would have thought possible, he sprang out. “Now give me one end and you take the other, Liege, and we’ll have her out like a carrot.”
